2019-20 Record: 10-12 (2-7)
Head Coach: Cuonzo Martin (3rd season, 45-42)
It has been a disappointing year for Cuonzo Martin and the Missouri Tigers. Yet again, they have a been plagued by an injury to one of their best players. In 2017-18, it was Michael Porter Jr. and his back problems. In 2018-19, it was Michael’s brother, Jontay Porter with a knee injury. Now this season after 12 games, Jeremiah Tilmon went down with a stress fracture in his foot. Tilmon did come off the bench in their last game against Texas A&M. He should be available against Arkansas on Saturday.
Missouri will try and slow the pace down against the Hogs. These Tigers are not gifted offensively. They cannot afford to get out and run with teams. This year, Missouri ranks 323rd in the Field Goal Percentage and scores just 65.3 points per game.
2019-20 Record: 16-6 (4-5)
Head Coach: Eric Musselman (1st season)
Arkansas is looking to bounce back coming off yet another heartbreaking loss. All 6 of Arkansas’ losses this season have by 7 points or less. Each of those games have been within one possession in the final minute. The absence of Isaiah Joe makes bouncing back very difficult. Joe had knee surgery on Tuesday to address the inflammation he has been experiencing the past few weeks. Some people have speculated Joe will be out 2 to 4 weeks, but Eric Musselman has not revealed any sort of timetable.
Mason Jones has been great all season, but has really stepped up his game the last few weeks. Jones is the first Razorback to score 30 points in three consecutive games. Arkansas will need more performances like that, as the season rolls on.
Missouri has some size in the paint that could cause some issues for Arkansas. Tilmon is the best option in the front court for Missouri, but Saturday will only be his second game back from injury. I do not expect Tilmon to be that productive. He may even be on a minutes restriction. The other big men for Missouri are not that skilled. Missouri has struggled mightily in the SEC and the Hogs have been up for the challenge on the road. Therefore, I will take the Hogs in this one.
Score Prediction: Arkansas 75, Missouri 66
Like many in our state, I didn’t have a choice in who my favorite team would be growing up. I was raised on Razorback. I remember watching the early season games on ARSN or conference games on JP Sports. My first favorite players were Brandon Dean and Joe Johnson. Great memories. I never thought years ago I would be writing about Arkansas Basketball. I don’t have a journalism background or anything like that. When given the opportunity, I wanted to challenge myself with something new and it has been a blast!
